Stranglehold
Oiled Pelicans (Copyright K Schlyer)
Our dependence on oil has resulted in the deaths of brown pelicans and other wildlife in the Gulf of Mexico.
Please use the information below to call your senators and urge them to pass climate and energy legislation that protects our wildlife and frees America from its dependence on oil and other dirty energy sources that contribute to climate change and pollution:
* Kay Bailey Hutchison - (512) 916-5834
* John Cornyn III - (512) 469-6034
Report the Call
Dear Arnold,
July 4th is over, but that doesn’t mean we’re free from Big Oil’s influence.
With millions of gallons of oil now choking the Gulf of Mexico – killing threatened and endangered sea turtles, whales, brown pelicans, dolphins and other coastal wildlife – I need your help to ensure a cleaner energy future for our wildlife, children and grandchildren.
It’s time to free America from Big Oil’s stranglehold. Please call your senators’ Texas offices today using the information below:
* Kay Bailey Hutchison - (512) 916-5834
* John Cornyn III - (512) 469-6034
… And deliver these simple messages:
* My name is Arnold Schwertman, and I’m from Rockwall and I’m calling today to urge [YOUR SENATOR] to work to pass climate and energy legislation when [HE/SHE] returns to Washington, DC next week.
* The devastation continuing to unfold in the Gulf is a daily reminder that we must end our dependency on oil and move to a new, cleaner energy future.
* Climate change poses an unprecedented threat to human communities, wildlife habitat, and the natural resources we all rely on for clean air and water, and recreational opportunities such as hiking, camping, boating and wildlife watching.
* Please pass comprehensive climate legislation that caps carbon emissions, protects wildlife from the impacts of climate change and prohibits any new drilling off our coasts.
Phone icon Please let us know that you called. We’re carefully tracking the number of calls from Texas and will follow up with key senators to remind them you called.
Whether it’s brown pelicans coated in oil due to the Gulf oil disaster or the polar bears losing the sea ice they need to survive due to climate change and carbon emissions, America’s dependence on oil is disastrous for our wildlife.
Last summer the House took a leap forward by passing the American Clean Energy and Security Act which would cap carbon emissions, protect wildlife and natural resources from the impacts of climate change and help break our addiction to oil while transitioning our country into a clean energy future.
Unfortunately the Senate has yet to take action and time is running out.
Right now, Texas’s senators are home for the July 4 recess before coming back to DC for one month before the August recess.
I need you to contact your senators this week while they are back in their district offices and urge them not to let another month pass without taking action to pass comprehensive climate and energy legislation that helps move us away from our devastating dependence on oil toward a new, cleaner energy future.
Together we can build a brighter future for our wildlife and for future generations, but I need you to pick up the phone and call your senators today.
For the Wild Ones,
Marcia Lesky
