BREAKING: A CLEAR Solution for Wildlife

Defenders staff and nearly 3,000 stalwart activists have helped pass the CLEAR Act in the House Natural Resources Committee, while fending off several harmful amendments to this important bill.

The CLEAR Act is landmark legislation that will promote clean energy choices, protect our communities and save the lives of sea turtles, dolphins and thousands of other species threatened by polluter-friendly energy policies.

This is an incredibly important bill for our wildlife and a huge step forward in our work to protect thousands of species.

Take Action: Urge your representative to work to pass the CLEAR Act and protect the lives of sea turtles and other wildlife threatened by climate change and pollution.

Defenders' Gulf Update

* Defenders Chief Scientist Chris Haney -- a veteran of the Exxon Valdez oil spill clean-up effort -- is in the Gulf now, leading the effort on behalf of the Natural Resource Damage Assessment Trustees to assess oil impacts on offshore marine birds.
* More than 65,000 Defenders activists have written federal officials in opposition to the Obama administration’s 5-year leasing plan that would allow new dangerous drilling off our coasts.
* More than 61,000 Defenders activists have urged federal officials to list struggling loggerhead turtles as endangered.

On the Roads for Wildlife:
10 Years of Habitats and Highways

Nearly 4 million miles of roads and 200 million vehicles keep Americans moving. But our mobility comes with a price. Road kill has pushed some rare species --such as the Florida panther and grizzly bear -- closer to extinction.

For ten years, Defenders has been championing innovative programs to make roads less dangerous for our wildlife -- and drivers.

Visit our website and celebrate a decade of success for Defenders’ Habitat and Highways program.
