What Does The Extreme Right Want?

I’m confused. I hear and read so much about this anti-government, or small government, movement sweeping the United States, and for all that I hear and read, I have yet to come across an alternative plan for how they would actually govern. Or would they just abolish the federal government altogether? For people who seem to be clinging to the Constitution as if it were a baby’s pacifier, it would seem obvious that ignoring the federal government’s powers in said Constitution would be reprehensible. It’s a shame that a fear-mongering pundit such as Glenn Beck can spread misinformation and flat-out lie to the American people; but I guess it’s more of a shame that people actually believe what comes out of his mouth.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but yes, at least 70 years of judicial precedent makes health care reform constitutional. The only shame in the health care reform debate is that President Obama is reneging on his pledge to transform American health care. The bill should go much further and include the public option. Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution (yes, the one the Founding Fathers wrote) clearly and undeniably gives the federal government the right, and the duty, to regulate interstate commerce, and to provide for the general welfare of the United States. Health insurance is just one of many forms of interstate commerce. It’s time the United States joins the rest of the civilized world in this arena instead of arrogantly and ignorantly claiming to know more than the rest of the world.
I am now bombarded with arguments that Barak Obama’s intent is to create a socialist state and a dictatorship. I’m sorry, but this is the best argument for the re-vamping of our education system I have ever heard. Barak Obama would be on the center-right in most of the world’s governments. It’s unfair to the leftist leaders of the world (and I could go on and on about how wrong they are too) to even put Obama in the same discussion. Do you really sit there in Everywhere, America and hear story after story about how disgruntled and upset the people of Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark are? No, you don’t. They are a generally happy and stable people. They are not socialist societies, they are capitalist, as a ten minute visit would prove. The fact that they pay taxes and actually receive services, not wars, implies responsible capitalist government. If the average American family paid more taxes, but didn’t have to worry about paying health premiums, excessive electricity and gas bills, and the like, they would easily find they would come out ahead. But Glenn Beck will tell you otherwise, and, I would guess, most of the people who hang on every word Beck has to offer, have not done much traveling outside of the United States. And it goes without saying, they haven’t lived outside the United Sates for any period of time that doesn’t include military service. That we are headed toward a dictatorship is as true as the fact that Obama’s policies have put us in this economic situation.
One of the things I hear over and over is how the socialist and despotic Stimulus Package has brought the United States to the brink of Soviet despotism. The Stimulus Package, for those of you who have been to school, was basic Economics 101 for how to deal with deep recession. If you don’t have the Stimulus Package, you have a deep global DEPRESSION. And, it was completely, 100% constitutional; in fact, I’m willing to bet Jefferson, Madison and the rest of the Founding Fathers, with access to information, would have agreed. (Which brings to mind, as an aside, if the concept of “health care” would have been on the radar of the Founding Fathers, they probably would have fallen on the side of universal right, unless, of course, you happened to be a slave).
What was the plan of attack against the recession from the right? Oh yeah, the continuation of flawed economic policies that got us into this mess in the first place. The tenets of Republican economics (ie small government and low taxes) have been failing since Reagan introduced them on a grand scale, and they will continue to fail. And the anti-government, Tea Party types who think everything the federal government does is unconstitutional obviously have a distorted view of the Constitution. The government not on has the constitutional authority to rescue the economy, it has the constitutional responsibility to rescue the economy.
I’m also willing to bet that the anti-government, free-thinking, defenders of liberty would draw the line at the Constitution of the United States providing for the free choice of women to decide what is right for their own bodies. Hey, we think every American should have the right to carry an AK-47 into Starbucks, especially now that the government is out to kill us, but to hell with the notion that an individual should have sovereignty over their own body. Yes, it is as outrageous as it sounds. If the right really wants true freedom, they will have to deal with people who don’t agree with them. That, unfortunately, is part of freedom. I am perfectly willing to defend the extreme right’s right to exist and opine and organize, but I take solace in the fact that I don’t think they can win an election (though I’m sure they would do away elections, as their right wing predecessors in history have done). And I don’t think the extreme right is willing, or even capable, of dealing with people who don’t agree with them.
Those of us that continue to live in the real world, that which is built upon fact and thought and debate, and not upon fear and lies, will continue to work toward making the United States a better place to live and work and raise families. Those on the extreme right, who continue to live in a fairy-tale world of lies, misinformation and an utter contempt for democratic and/or republican values, will continue their quest to destroy the country they claim to love so much.

The far right is actually a powerful group of rich people who don't want government regulating how they make their money or what they do with it. They are people who have strangulated the medical profession into contributing money so that patients who suffer from the actions of physicians can't file law suites. They have managed to control lawyers, government officials and government agencies that are suppose to protect patients rights. In America we are fighting against special interest groups who ran rampage while the Bushites were in power. Every society has its evil and this is ours.

There used to be a phrase, "The Reactionary Right." The Far Right circa 2010 is certainly living up to that.

When did Pres. Obama morph his name into Israel's Defense Minister Ehud Barak? Good article despite the spelling gaffe.

I think that a big part of the problem is that much of America has never lost the Cold War mindset.
I still hear, and see, people every day foaming at the mouth about "communists" and "socialists", calling Barack Obama a socialist as if it's a curse word.
I don't think they realize exactly how miserable life would be (is) in a truly, purely capitalistic society and how much they already expect and demand the existence of social (and therefore socialist, QED) programs. It has been a constant source of amazement to me, since the Haitian earthquake, how quickly and willingly Americans gave money to help, and yet they balk at giving any money to the domestic poor. I suppose that poverty within the nation's borders is not trendy, though.
I suppose, in the long run (and this will sound horrible) a lot of reforms are going to have to wait until... well... until we start to lose a considerable number of the baby boomers. It sounds ugly, but once the extreme conservatives, including those who lived their adult lives in the midst of the Cold War, start to pass on (and thereby pass out of both the voting majority and the majority of politicians) then we will probably start to see considerable change.
